Sex and the City and a very dirty Skipper

Quite the weekend and it's still not over. For starters, finally got to see Sex and the City on friday night. Totally lived up to my expectations. I won't say too much about the plot as I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but in the end, things turned out pretty much how I would like for them to. The girls and I (plus one guy- who is a big fan as well) got all dressed up and headed to the Majestic Theater in Brookfield. BTW- my new shoes looked absolutely amazing with my little black dress. Anyway, we went to the lounge at the theater and had martinis- they made a mean cosmo- and ordered some appetizers. They wouldn't let us take the drinks into the regular theater, but we could take the food. So, saw the movie- we laughed, we cried (although we each cried over a different scene) and left very happy with everything. Then we got some custard at Oscars. Unfortunately, we also got stuck in traffic on our way home due to construction lane closures. It was about 12:30am when I finally got home.
I was up bright and early - as in 4:50am. That was rough, but once I got going, I was ok. The Trek 100 bike ride was on saturday morning. I had to get my bike at the 'rents place and meet some friends by 6:10am to head out to WCTC for the ride. It was a great day. Beautiful weather all morning. In the morning, Lance Armstrong spoke briefly before they started the ride. We were probably about 120 feet or so from him, which was really cool. There were about 20 people from the bike team there. Most of us ladies opted for the 37 mile route this year. We just haven't been on the bikes all that much. No need to kill myself right off the bat. Great food at the rest stops and at the finish. We got done and just cleaned up a little and got regular clothes on. Then just sat around for a couple hours drinking beer and enjoying the great day. Not too shabby of a morning.
Of course the afternoon was vastly different. I got back and dropped my bike back off at my parents' place. My mom was the only one home and we decided to go to the budget theater were they were showing "Horton Hears a Who". For two bucks, not a bad movie. What I saw of it- I did take a little nap at one point- not because it was boring, but I was just really tired from lack of sleep and then the whole 37 mile bike ride. Well, we got done with the movie and as we were walking out to the car, it looked very dark. By them time we got back home, the tornado sirens were actually going off. So, we went into the basement to chill out while the storm passed. My dad got home about a ten minutes later and joined us. We were listening to the radio and it became obvious that it wasn't going to pass over too quickly, so dad grabbed a beer and mom and I popped open some wine. Not too shabby for a tornado warning. Of course, keep in mind that I still had not showered and was wearing the kinda sweaty clothes that I had on while sitting outside with everyone earlier. As soon as the tornado warning ended, I decided to head back to the apartment. It was still raining and there was a flash flood warning, but I thought if I got going quickly, I could make it. Ha. Not so much.
After getting turned back three different times because of flooded streets trying to get back to Tosa, I finally gave up and went back to the 'rents place. I was not happy. I had no clean clothes, had not showered since friday morning and had a headache. Plus, mom and dad don't have an extra bed, so it was the couch for me. (Well, kind of by choice, as dad did offer to take the couch and let me sleep upstairs, but mom snores, so that was a no go.) By the time I got up this morning, I was dying to a shower. I looked like some kind of hippy freak. I had on wrinkled shorts and flip flops along with my t-shirt that I had rolled the sleeves up all the way on. No make-up and pretty tan from saturday morning, plus the lack of washing left my hair looking like I was trying to get some sort of dreadlock look. I was so happy to get a shower once I got home. Managed to get to church and went for breakfast afterwards. But, as we were eating breakfast, it started to rain again really hard. I had to make a run for the car and the roads were getting worse as I drove home. At least I'm here. They are saying more rain is coming and I'm debating if I want to attempt leaving the premises until tomorrow. We will see. At least I'm clean and can sleep in my own bed tonight.
