This all started exactly a week ago when I was surfing the internet and found the cutest, wonderful shoes. I actually quoted Carrie when I saw them..."Hello, Lover". They are dark pink patent leather. Open-toed with a strap that crosses just above my arch and a silver buckle on the strap. And four inch heels. And I had to have them. Now, I did just receive my federal stimulus check and I figure that it would be wrong for me to spend all of it paying bills and not use it to actually stimulate the economy. So, I ordered them. I wouldn't normally order shoes online, but these were from Nine West and I own three other pairs of their shoes and they are all the same size, so I was pretty safe in what size to get. However, they are brand new and would not ship until Monday the 2nd. So, when I placed the order, I forked out the extra ten bucks for 2nd day air shipping. Here is where the fun begins.
On Monday, I received an email from Nine West with my tracking number for the package. It was sent out on Monday and according to the UPS website, it was scheduled for delivery on Tuesday, the 3rd. I was very excited. Until I got home Tuesday night at about 7:15pm and there was no note at my door telling me that they had attempted delivery (as UPS seems to always need a signature, they never leave packages at the door and I must go pick them up at the service center). I checked online again only to find out that the package was supposedly still out for delivery. At 7:45pm I called UPS and they told me that occasionally the drivers will still be delivering past 7:30pm, so I should wait a while longer. By 9:30 though, I knew they were not still coming over. So I called again. This time they told me that sometimes they don't get through all the boxes, so it's probably still sitting on the truck and they will attempt delivery tomorrow. I was annoyed, but still holding it together. The next morning, I had another package to pick up at UPS that I had been holding off on getting so I could pick them both up at the same time. I figured while I was there, I could just see if they had the shoes. So, I told them the story and gave them the tracking number. They went in back to figure out where it was.
And then I waited for almost 40 minutes. They could not find my shoes on the truck they thought they would be on. They claimed that they could be on another truck and the only thing I could do is wait the day and see if someone tries to deliver them. I asked if there was anything else that I could do and they said no, just wait and see. Ok. I'm more annoyed. I head to work and have a meeting in the morning. When I get out of the meeting, I check the status online thinking maybe by chance they attempted a delivery. Imagine my shock when I see that at 8:28am my packaged was scanned out for delivery in Elm Grove- I was standing in their lobby at that time. And then at 9:45am it was scanned as misdirected/sent to the wrong location in Ironwood, Michigan!!!!!! How the hell did my shoes get sent to Ironwood, Michigan?!
I am now pissed. I called UPS and pretty much yelled at the woman on the phone to explain to me how this happened. She had no explanation. She told me that the service center in Elm Grove would call me back. And they did and then I yelled at that person. No one could explain to me how my shoes got sent out of Elm Grove while I was in the building and were now in another state. I asked how I could get my money back and they told me that I had to call the company that mailed them as they were the ones that actually paid UPS. So, I called Nine West. I was nice to them, as they were in no way responsible for what happened. They actually agreed to refund not only the extra that I paid for the 2nd day air, but all the shipping costs.
Now, the final infuriating point was that while the shoes scanned in in Michigan at 9:45am, it wasn't until after 8pm that they were scanned as leaving Michigan. So, it apparently took just over an hour for them to get there and almost 12 hours for them to finally send them back.
At least this morning, I got a call that my shoes were finally in Elm Grove. I ran over there right away as I didn't want to give them any chances to accidentally ship my shoes off somewhere else.
Anyway, I have my shoes now. They fit and they look amazing. They will look wonderful tomorrow night with my little black dress when I go see Sex and the City with my friends. But, I can assure everyone that if given the choice, I will not use UPS in the future and I definitely will not fork out extra money for the faster service.
