My $400 Graham Cracker

So, a little over a week ago, I learned a very important lesson. Never, ever, eat while using my laptop. See, I have a very nice MacBook Pro laptop that I got about 3 years ago, but since purchasing it, I haven't been all that great about taking care of it. I habitually eat while sitting on my couch, laptop on my lap. Unfortunately, last thursday, I was at home and had a snack- a couple of graham crackers and I was checking my email. When I was finished, I glanced down and noticed that a chunk of the graham cracker had broken off and fallen into my lap, only to wedge itself into the CD drive of my computer. Part of it was sticking out and I tried to pull it out, only to wind up pushing it all the way in. So, the next day I took it in to the Apple store to see if they could open the computer up and get the graham cracker out. Unfortunately, the guy at the genius bar informed me that most likely the cracker crumbs have ruined the laser in the CD drive which would mean that it won't work again. When I asked him if I could just have them remove the cracker, but not replace the drive- I would just get an external drive- I was told that Apple has a policy that they won't do any repairs that don't bring the computer back to warranty quality- ie. they won't do a half-fix. So, as much as it sucked, I figured I might as well just suck it up and get the whole thing cleaned out and if needed, replaced. So, $400 later, I have a new CD drive and no more cracker in my computer. And I have learned the lesson that I will never again eat anywhere near my laptop. Oh, and apparently I gave the people at Apple something to talk about last weekend, because when I went to pick up the computer, the woman at the checkout asked what happened that I had to have the drive replaced and I told her about the graham cracker. At which point, she replied that she had heard something about a cracker in a disk drive- I guess I was the talk of the Apple store.

ROFL

Something about this whole situation strikes me as hilarious, except for the $400 fee. Sorry about that... but that is so funny...
